About
Business for Photographers is published by Dave Scott Photographic.
Since 1982, Dave Scott has been shooting a wide variety of assignments and gaining the experience that very few photographers achieve. During that time, and continuing today, Dave’s work varies widely with such subjects as professional sports action, tabletop still life for packaging, ultra large products for corporate brochures, corporate head shots and executive portraits, glamour for calendars, fashion, editorial illustration, and even senior portraits.
Dave believes, his 25 years of such varied subject matter and clientele, and sometimes crazy deadlines, was the best learning environment he could have had.
NOW THE IMPORTANT PART
There is so much more to becoming a good photographer than memorizing formulas or accumulating equipment. In the grab for your money, the photo industry is creating incompetence. Marketing campaigns from manufacturers make insanely false promises. For example; There is no softbox/strobe combination on the market today that will create a better image than the 20 year old strobe that I have when I shoot it through a stretched out, white bed sheet (as we did before softboxes existed). The manufacturers and the pro photographers that they pay to make quotes like “I could not have made this image without Brand XX lighting.” are deliberately misleading you. They want your cash. The masses are going to pay up front for the equipment and then not get the results they hoped for.
Learning photography is a process. Rather than memorize formulas from a workshop it’s more important to understand the components to good photography. That’s where this website comes into the picture. We’re here to provide a constant stream of information to help with the learning process.
What’s even better about this website is that my readership is growing daily and readers are making donations on an article by article basis. We have a different business model here. Rather than paying a lot up front and hoping you get your money’s worth, you can actually read the information first and donate as you see fit. It’s a win/win situation for both of us.
Happy shooting!
